Walking the Shore

Shoring up support and celebrating my birthday with the best of friends.

What a delicious Sunday brunch at L'Escale Restaurant in Greenwich. Yes, it is on the water, and I'm sure they would have offered outside seating if it hadn't been forty degrees and windy. Great views from the restaurant warmed my ambition for this walk, as did the chateaux-sized hearth and the gifted sparkling wine. But what sparked my soul more than anything else that day was the deep love and encouragement given to me by these wonderful women.

Fifty two years ago, while playing house, I hit my new kindergarten friend over the head with a frying pan, (she was getting a little bossy.) Still in my life, not nearly as bossy, and more beautiful than ever, she is one of best.

On junior prom weekend, on a lonely Connecticut interstate, another dear friend entertained away my nervousness as our prom dates walked miles for a can of gasoline, she is one of best. So many stories. Someone with a good memory should be writing them down.

These friends of mine are intelligent, funny, exquisite women. They have supported and celebrated all the big moments in my life. A slow process, they are helping me to think that I too could be exquisite.

We are a band of seven. We were friends before we had children or husbands or preteen crushes. And although we are very much individuals as in politics and purses and pursuits, we are one in love. This is a happy start for my journey across Connecticut!
